Requirements

  • Both applicants must participate and present proof of age.
  • Legal names exactly as shown on the identification that will be presented.
  • Social Security number and the residence, date of birth, and birthplace information requested in the application.
  • The legal termination date of the most recent marriage for any applicant who was previously married.
  • Acknowledgment that both applicants have accessed Florida’s Family Law Handbook.

Important notes

  • Florida residents who do not present a qualifying premarital-course certificate generally receive a license effective three days after application.
  • Florida residents who present a qualifying course certificate, and non-Florida residents, receive a license effective on the application date.
  • The qualifying premarital course must be at least four hours and completed no more than one year before applying.
  • The marriage must be solemnized within 60 days after the license is issued.
